Eyebrow threading originated first in India. According to one theory, the practice started in India over 6000 years ago and spread throughout Asia, the Middle East, and in recent times Europe.

Eyebrow threading allows for a more defined and precise shape and can create better definition for eyebrows. It is also used as a method of removing unwanted hair on the entire face and upper lip area.

In Eyebrow threading, a thin cotton  thread is doubled, then twisted. It is then rolled over areas of unwanted hair, plucking the hair at the follicle level. Unlike tweezing, where single hairs are pulled out one at a time, threading can remove short lines of hair.

Threading for eyebrows is widely practice in India, Indian women are generally doing their eyebrows once in two weeks, and threading is used for Full face, upper lip, chin, sideburns and cheeks too.

  • Eyebrow threading is much healthier for the skin than waxing, and it creates no ingrown hairs.
  • It is inexpensive, fast, and relatively painless (with a skilled practitioner).
  • Eyebrow threading is suitable for all skin types, even those too sensitive for laser hair removal or waxing.
  • It takes no more than 15 minutes to thread both eyebrows.
  • No chemicals are used in Eyebrow threading, so there is no risk of a negative reaction.
  • The results of the treatment last for two to four weeks.

Dermatologists often recommend Eyebrow Threading

If you are a regular user of exfoliating products, such as topical retinoids (Retin-A (tretinoin) , Tazorac (tazarotene), Ziana (tretinoin), Differin (adapalene) or glycolic or salicylic acids, or even oral medicines such as Accutane (isotretinoin, Sotret, Claravis, Amnesteem), your skin will be more fragile and may be more prone to tear with the pulling involved with waxing.  If you recently had a chemical peel you would want to avoid waxing because the skin is more fragile.
